Wardrobe

A wardrobe is one of those pieces of furniture that has largely disappeared from American bedrooms, mostly because we started building closets into the walls. But a closet is part of the house. A wardrobe is a piece of furniture, and a good one can follow you around for the rest of your life.

This one was designed to hold a substantial amount of clothing without looking like a giant box sitting in the room. The upper cabinet has a full-width hanging compartment behind a pair of arched panel doors, while the lower case provides five large drawers for everything that doesn’t need a hanger. The proportions and curved panels soften what is, by necessity, a fairly large piece of furniture.

This one is made of solid cherry using traditional joinery. Like most cherry furniture, it will continue to darken and develop a richer color as it ages. The wardrobe can also be made in other appropriately beautiful hardwoods, and the interior arrangement and dimensions can be adjusted to suit its intended use.
